Readers' Bios

Yan Ge was born in Sichuan, China in 1984. She is a fiction writer in both Chinese and English, and is the author of fourteen books in Chinese, including six novels. She has received numerous awards and was named by People’s Literature magazine as one of twenty future literature masters in China. Her work has been translated into eleven languages, including English, French and German. The latest English translation of her novel, Strange Beasts of China, was one of the New York Times Notable Books of 2021. Yan’s English writing has appeared in the New York Times, the Irish Times, TLS, Granta, the Stinging Fly and elsewhere. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia where she was the recipient of the UEA International Award 2018/19. Her English language debut short story collection Elsewhere was published by Faber (UK) and Scribner (US) in 2023 and was named a New Yorker book of the year. Yan lives in Norwich with her husband and son.

Kwan Ann Tan is a writer from Malaysia living in London. Her work has previously been published in The Offing, Joyland Magazine, Sine Theta Magazine, and Tahoma Literary Review, amongst others. She is an alumnus of the Tin House Winter Workshop, and in her spare time, she also makes short games. Her first novella The Waiter was published in Fall 2025 by The Emma Press. Her second book was shortlisted for the Epigram Books Fiction Prize, and will be published in 2026. She also creates short games & interactive fiction.

sinθ (Sine Theta) is an international print-based creative arts magazine that connects and empowers members of the Sino diaspora like ourselves. We publish submissions of visual art and literature, and feature interviews with established as well as rising creators alike in the magazine. The Sino diaspora is one of the largest diasporas on the planet. Our mission is to foster community around the creative voices and works of Sino writers and artists, and to create a platform highlighting the concept of diaspora as one that challenges national borders and subverts hierarchies. We are committed to print culture and the materiality of the physical publication. In addition to our print magazine, we host and attend events that connect Sino creatives and other community members across the globe, and spotlight writers and artists from the diaspora on our social media pages.
