The Experience
Inspired by the generation-spanning themes of the film Sinners, Sinners Serenade transforms Church & State into a living crossroads between worlds.
On this night, the music runs so deep it begins to bend time.
Songs become portals, opening passageways to the past, the present, the future, and beyond the veil.
Inside the century-old walls of Church & State, the night unfolds like a living story where eras collide and memories echo through sound.
You may find yourself wandering through:
• A Prohibition-style bar, pouring drinks from another century
• Live musicians carrying songs across time
• Breakdancers and shufflers turning rhythm into motion
• Wandering performers appearing from forgotten eras; or the future
• Interactive art installations hidden throughout the historic building
Music moves through the rooms like a current.
The crowd becomes part of the ritual.
The living dance with the echoes of those who came before. And for a few hours, the boundary between memory, myth, and the present moment grows thin.
Come curious.
Come dressed from another time.
And when the music reaches its peak,
don’t be surprised if you feel the veil open.
Live Music
EZRA BELL
Headlining Performance
Portland-based indie collective Ezra Bell brings their genre-bending sound to the heart of Sinners Serenade for a rare live performance.
The band has built a devoted following with a rich blend of folk, jazz, blues, rock, pop, and R&B, paired with sharp storytelling and unforgettable melodies.
Since forming in Portland in 2013, Ezra Bell has released multiple acclaimed EPs and albums, earning national attention early on, including a memorable appearance in a 2015 Super Bowl commercial.
With a full ensemble sound featuring horns, keys, and driving rhythm, Ezra Bell’s live performances move effortlessly between intimate storytelling and explosive musical moments.
For this special night, they take the stage at the center of the ritual.
CHAC XOL
Cosmic Folk & Stone Blues
Mexican-American musician and artist Chac Xol brings a sound he calls “cosmic folk & Stone Blues.”
Drawing from deep ancestral rhythms and desert mysticism, his music feels ancient and futuristic at the same time — like songs carried across generations and rediscovered under starlight.
Expect hypnotic grooves, textured guitar work, and a sonic atmosphere that opens the door between past and present.
BOOTLEGG
DJ • Vocalist • Vibe Curator
Bootlegg closes the night by carrying the dancefloor deeper into the ritual.
Spinning a soulful blend of Hip-Hop, Funk, and R&B, Bootlegg crafts sets that move bodies and elevate the room. As a vocalist and curator of energy, he transforms the late hours into a collective groove — where the crowd becomes part of the music.
