Maria Giesbrecht is a Canadian writer whose work explores her Mexican and Mennonite roots. Her writing has appeared or is forthcoming in The Literary Review of Canada, Narrative, Grain, Writer's Digest, CV2, and elsewhere. She is the winner of the 2025 Jack McCarthy Book Prize, the Lesley Strutt Poetry Prize, a finalist for the 2025 Narrative Poetry Prize, a Best of Net nominee, and the founder of Gather, an international writing community that connects poets worldwide. Born in Durango, Mexico, she now lives near Toronto, Canada.
Joel Katelnikoff holds a PhD in literary theory from the University of Alberta. His book Recombinant Theory applies cut-up techniques to the complete works of ten contemporary poet-theorists: Annharte, Charles Bernstein, Christian Bök, Johanna Drucker, Lyn Hejinian, Steve McCaffery, Erín Moure, Sawako Nakayasu, Lisa Robertson, and Fred Wah. These cut-ups are then compiled into essays, each refracting the concepts of the original text while producing new lyrical and theoretical formulations.
Dr. Irene Naested is Professor Emerita from Mount Royal University. She is a visual artists, published author, and award-winning educator. Irene gleans from nature the elements and principles of composition as a pathway in becoming grounded. She created 39 images and the cover for the newly published book of poetry and art with Mary Vlooswyk as the Poet, Titled: “Living on the Prairie Fringe”. Irene used Mary’s words to inspire her art-making which appear as colour pages in the book. The second Sunday in September, Irene hosts an annual event called “Passport to the Arts Show and Sale” where authors, poets, musicians, and artist, working in various genre share their work. This day includes scheduled musical performances and poetry reading. For specifics on presenters and times please look at her website, https://passporttothearts.ca/ .
Mary Vlooswyk’s writing and visual art is published locally and internationally in Shanti Arts, FreeFall, Prairie Fire and CV2 to name a few. Her poem An Origin Story, won Gold in Alberta Magazine Publishers Association awards 2023. She is a contributing editor for Arc Poetry Magazine since 2019. An adult student of cello, she lives with her husband in Calgary on the edge of beautiful Fish Creek Provincial Park.
