About this Event

VoiceCare BookClub—We all have books we want to read to learn more about the voice, so let's do it in community and meet the authors!

Pay As You Wish! A small, tax-deductible donation of just $10 to the Human Compatible Learning Center (nonprofit 501c3) can make a big impact. In honor of our late founder, Leon Thurman, your generosity will help fund a scholarship in his name, covering tuition, room, and board for a deserving teacher to attend a voice conference.

This month we willl dive into: Singing Through Change — Womens' Voices in Midlife, Menopause and Beyond by Nancy Bos, Joanne Bozeman and Cate Frazier-Neely. Our discussion will include authors Joanne Bozeman & Cate Frazier-Neely, and the evening will be moderated by Megan Durham. Scroll down for more information about these scholars.

A graduate of the University of Arizona, Joanne Bozeman (she, her) has been a singing teacher for 48 years. She was faculty member at Lawrence University’s Conservatory of Music in the state of Wisconsin for 26 years, where she taught singing and a number of voice and music education courses. In addition to her career as a voice teacher, Joanne was an actively performing soprano. Inspired by her long-standing interest in voice health and the relationship of hormones with voice throughout the female lifespan, Joanne co-authored the book Singing Through Change: Women’s Voices in Midlife, Menopause, and Beyond, released in 2020. She is a frequent presenter on the subject of female voice and hormones for many organizations, including the International Congress of Voice Teachers (ICVT), the British Voice Association, (BVA), the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the Pan American Vocology Association (PAVA), International Voice Teachers of Mix (IVTOM), and others. Retired from academia and professional singing, Joanne continues to be engaged with the voice community as a teacher and researcher.

Cate Frazier-Neely (she, her) is singing voice specialist, somatic reeducator, musician and voice teacher. She works on referral from SLPs at Johns Hopkins Otolaryngology and colleagues around the world. She teaches Vocal Health and Circle Singing for Strathmore Hall for Performing Arts’ “Artist-in-Residence” Program. She also finds great joy working with singers adjusting to the peri-menopausal and post -menopausal years.

A former reviewed classical singer & collaborative pianist, Cate began teaching singing in 1980 by combining the principles of traditional pedagogy with the rhythms and vocal functions of popular music. She incorporated yoga and other healing modalities into teaching long before they were accepted as tools in traditional vocal pedagogy. She is passionate about singing as a powerful force for health and wellness, even as she moved through her own former severe health history and diagnosis of bi-lateral vocal fold paresis.

Her son: YouTube bassist music theorist & culture doctor, Adam Neely.
