Indiana University’s SINGING HOOSIERS at the Ogle CenterThe Ogle Center at Indiana University Southeast proudly welcomes the Grammy-nominated Indiana University Singing Hoosiers for an exciting evening of American music celebrating the upcoming United States Semiquincentennial (America250).
Founded in 1950, the Singing Hoosiers have built a 75-year tradition of excellence in American popular and choral music. Known as Indiana University’s “Ambassadors of Song,” the ensemble has performed across the United States and in more than 25 countries throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Caribbean. Over the decades they have collaborated with legendary artists and ensembles including Duke Ellington, Bob Hope, Mel Tormé, Sandi Patty, Sylvia McNair, the Indianapolis Symphony, and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra under Erich Kunzel.
Today the ensemble includes more than 90 student singers and instrumentalists from the IU Jacobs School of Music and over two dozen majors across Indiana University, continuing a legacy shaped by generations of distinguished directors.
The program features classic American songs spanning the Great American Songbook, choral classics, and contemporary arrangements, including favorites such as “Dancing in the Street,” “Chicago (That Toddlin’ Town),” “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “Higher Love,”** and **“Stepping Out with My Baby.”
