Singing for Liberation: Winter 2026 Songleader IncubatorSONGS FOR FIGHTING AUTHORITARIANISM
Monday nights starting January 19th, 6:30-8:30 pm
@ CTUL+IX in George Floyd Square, 3715 Chicago Ave, Minneapolis
aka, How are we gonna survive the collapse of these here times? How are we gonna carry each other through?
In this moment, singing is an essential organizing tool to support the work of liberation.
Singing together is a deeply anti-fascist practice to help us live towards getting free.
Liberation movements throughout history have taught us that singing together helps us celebrate, march, grieve, stay true to our vision, and that the songs anchor our courage for the work to come. We're not singing to perform, we're singing because it changes us-- every voice is needed in the movement.
We are offering an 8-week series this winter in partnership with CTUL/IX to train up more songleaders for movement work!
Whether you want to learn more songs to meet this moment of rising authoritarianism, or learn to confidently lead community to sing them as we organize for a better world, we want you here! You do not need to "be a singer" or "know what you're doing" -- we lead in the oral tradition, where everything is taught call and echo, simple enough to be easy to pick up in the streets and powerful enough to anchor a mass meeting.
Liberation movements throughout history have taught us that singing together helps us celebrate, march, grieve, stay true to our vision, and that the songs anchor our courage for the work to come. We're not singing to perform, we're singing because it changes us-- every voice is needed in the movement.
We're going to do a deep dive into how singing *functions* in organizing, in shifting culture, and in building the world we want to live in.
We'll meet on Monday nights at CTUL, from 6:30-8:30 pm, starting January 19, 2026 and ending March 9th.
Folx can come just to sing and drop in as they please (we need a crowd of supportive singers to practice on!), or come to all the sessions with the intention of practicing their songleading and skilling up.
We are hoping to have Non-cooperation training from the Freedom Trainers Network folded in half-way 👀
Songleading will be anchored by GOOD TROUBLE, aka Liz Digitale Anderson + Conie Borchardt, and friends. Learn more about us at https://singingforliberation.com/goodtrouble/
We're grateful to be partnering with Inquilinxs Unidxs and CTUL to make this happen!
A sliding scale donation is requested of $5-20 per session, or $35-$150 for the whole series; no one turned away for lack of funds.
Accessibility:
