The Singapore Flamenco Festival 2025 (SFF2025) is a celebration of the soulful art of flamenco and the bravery it embodies. SFF 2025 will create a global dialogue — bringing together artists from diverse cultural backgrounds to explore and express the universal themes of courage, resilience, imagination, frailty, conflict, power, and the indomitable human spirit.Tauromagia (13 Sep 2025, 8pm & 14 Sep 2025, 3pm)
SFF2025 opens with Tauromagia — a highly-acclaimed Spanish production boldly restaged for the first time in Asia — featuring world-renowned Spanish dancer, Mercedes Ruiz, with the Flamenco Sin Fronteras company dancers. Tauromagia deeply explores the festival’s theme, "El Valor del Alma" (The Courage of the Soul). It aims to honour the deep emotional and artistic expression of flamenco dance and music, intertwined with the valour, spirit and emotion inspired by Spanish bullfighting. First staged in the prestigious Festival de Jerez (Spain) in 2018 to critical acclaim, Tauromagia features the virtuoso skill of award-winning Spanish dancer, Mercedes Ruiz, a leading figure in the world of flamenco.
Now staging in Singapore for the very first time, Mercedes Ruiz will reprise her original role and oversee the choreography and creative direction of the production. At the core of the production is the genius and exquisite guitar skills of virtuoso composer-guitarist Santiago Lara, complemented by the soaring vocals of renowned Flamenco singer David Lagos — paying homage to the legendary Manolo Sanlúcar, composer of the iconic flamenco album Tauromagia, from which the show draws its title and inspiration. Uniquely, for this local staging of Tauromagia, SFF2025’s presentation will feature 8 Singaporean dancers from the Flamenco Sin Fronteras dance company performing alongside Mercedes Ruiz.
FlamencAsian (20 Sep 2025, 3pm & 8pm)
FlamencAsian is an exhilarating amalgamation of flamenco with dance and music from Spain, India, Taiwan and Singapore’s own multicultural fabric, performed by artistes from around the region. Next, the FlamencAsian Musical Experience is an exhilarating ride through a musical medley like no other, as timeless stories and shared experiences are woven into a human tapestry through the universal language of music and dance, crossing boundaries and culture. Come and experience first-hand the incredible synergy of the virtuosic collaboration between award-winning Spanish dancer-choreographer Daniel Navarro and Singapore homegrown talents Yong Kai Lin (violin), Govin Tan (percussion), Azrin Abdullah (Oud), Nawas Mirajkar (tabla), Pratima Bellavue (classical Indian vocals), Aleem Keys (piano), flamenco vocalist Chen Po Yin (Taiwan), classical flamenco guitarist Sergio Muñoz (Spain / Taiwan) and other musicians in Singapore.
Punto Rojo (21 Sep 2025, 6pm)
We will close the festival in a rousing celebration of Singapore’s homegrown flamenco community with Punto Rojo (“Red Dot” in Spanish). The flamenco community in Singapore includes many well-respected senior artistes from Singapore’s largest flamenco school, Flamenco Sin Fronteras — including Daphne Huang, Tilly Wong, Toshi Konno, and more — who now teach and perform in Singapore after extensive study under masters in Spain and around the world. They will present their own works and choreographies that range from traditional presentation to theatrical interpretations of flamenco palos and music. Dancers from other schools, such as Spanish Dance Singapore and Alhambra Estudio de Flamenco, will also be invited to share their work through this showcase. There is no better way to close the Singapore Flamenco Festival 2025 than with a dazzling performance showcase by the vibrant and ever-growing Singapore-based flamenco community.
