About this Event
Welcome to North York Reading Group! The group is established with the purpose to facilitate discussion on readings about society, history, environment, humanity and philosophy.
This is a nature without voices. When spring comes, we are supposed to hear the singing of birds, or the chirping of cicadas. But nothing happened in the spring described by Rachel Carson. This prompted her to investigate and found out that the chemicals human used were killing living organisms everywhere. Although a book written more than 60 years ago, it still reminds us how ignorant we are in the application of science and technology, and what a devastating effect can be if we act in the same way without reflection.
This is a single session with first half hour giving a brief introduction to the book, and then discuss any comment / question / insight related to the ideas raised in the book. This will be a relaxed one and a half hour session without any prerequisite to join.
