95th Anniversary Screening! 4K Restoration! By 1929, Louise Brooks was legendary, but not for the right reasons. A former Denishawn dancer, as well as one-time Ziegfeld Follies hoofer, her rebellious spirit led to catastrophic repercussions as an emerging star. Harnessing her unruly talents and getting her under studio control proved difficult for Hollywood, leading the actress to flee the Paramount backlot for the wilds of Weimar Berlin and the tutelage of famed master G.W. Pabst. Their first of two collaborations, PANDORA’S BOX is simply one of the greatest silent films ever made—and Brooks, as the innocent yet deadly Lulu, transformed into one of the era’s most iconic images. While it would take decades for Brooks’s reputation to be restored, she would become forever synonymous with Lulu in PANDORA’S BOX. A lurid late-era Weimar monument, it simmers on screen nearly a century after its premiere. See its recent restoration with a live score and experience the silent era as it was meant to be!
