Script & Casual Lettering Workshop with Ged Palmer at Enseignes Brillo, PARIS.

Ged Palmer is excited to be joinging the team at Enseignes Brillo in Paris for a special weekend workshop in brush lettering.

This workshop focuses on developing "Script and Casual" Lettering styles in the traditional signwriting method. Perfect for both beginners and professionals, it covers essential brush control and techniques for these two expressive single-stroke styles, commonly used in signwriting, commercial lettering, and other artistic disciplines. Past participants have come from backgrounds in scenic art, graphic design, calligraphy, type design, illustration, and fine arts.

Workshop Details

Students will learn and refine their brush lettering techniques under expert guidance. The workshop will cover five casual styles and one script style, with additional variations demonstrated. Whether for personal projects or a career in lettering, this workshop is a great way to expand your skills and creative potential.

About the Venue Enseignes Brillo is Paris's premier signwriting studio, set up by Louis Lepais & Etienne Renard in 2020. They produce equisite hand crafted and gidled signs informed by a deep knowledge of typographic design and hand-lettering.

Info: On Thursday 25th participants are invited to join us for a glass of wine at the studio to say hi to the instructors, meet fellow participants and get to know more about the work that is being produced at the studio. It's a great opportunity to meet some like minded folks and get to know each other before the workshop starts on Friday morning!

Info: There'll be fresh coffee and pastries waiting for you when you arrive, please come promptly for 9am to join us for these refreshments and get set up!

Info: Ged will be breaking down the theory and structure of casual, explaining how to draft the letterforms and to get the basic strokes executed properly. He'll be explaining best practice with the tools, posture, breathing and intention.

Info: A delicious lunch will be provided by a local restaurant!

Info: This afternoon will be spent developing our skills and taking what we know into a variety of casual styles: Slanted, upright, thick and thin. With demonstrations and expert guidance, you'll be able to develop a quick and free approach to these iconic brush lettering styles! We'll wrap up about 5pm and gather materials and reviewing what we've learnt.

Info: Building on what we learnt on Friday, Ged will demonstrate how to use the structure of casual to begin creating flowing Script lettering. Using an easy to understand method and some fundamental principals we'll learn how to make graceful script packed with personality!

Info: With further demos and individual feedback and tuition, we'll work on any weak points from the various styles covered, allowing specific questions and troubleshooting from students. We'll discuss how and when to use these lettering styles for maximum effect and look at combining the two styles into some poster style layouts. We'll wrap up the day around 5pm with time for some recaps and some time to hang out together!
