Layout Workshop with Ged Palmer at The Art Workers' Guild
After a series of sold-out workshops in 2024, award-winning lettering artist Ged Palmer is excited to announce a new series of workshops at the historic Art Workers' Guild in Central London.
This workshop focuses on developing "Layout" in the traditional signwriting method. This workshop is aimed and intermediate to advanced levels, especially those who have come to the 'Block', 'Casual' or 'Script' workshop that Ged also offers. It covers core design principles for effective poster, sign and typographic layouts of all kinds. Hierarchy, use of space, colour theory, adapting layout for the communication style and many more important factors are covered to make sure your work reads well and has eye-appeal! Past participants have come from backgrounds in scenic art, graphic design, calligraphy, type design, illustration, and fine arts.
Workshop Details
Students will how to interpret copy, breaking down the tone of voice and creating layouts to convey the message visually. We will be focusing primarily on drawing and theory as well participants also having the opportunity to design their own hand-painted sign. Whether for personal projects or a career in lettering, this workshop is a great way to expand your skills and creative potential.
