Florian Donderer (violin), Annette Walther (violin), Xandi van Dijk (viola) and Thomas Schmitz (cello)Old Nectar concerts welcomes the Signum Quartet back to Stellenbosch for an afternoon at Old Nectar gardens historic wine cellar in Jonkershoek with a concert programme titled Bridge the chasms that divide – 30 years since the fall of apartheid in South Africa. Thanks to their rousing, lively interpretations and individual programme concepts, the Signum Quartet has made its mark on the international scene and established itself as one of the most distinguished ensembles of its generation. For this project, the Signum Quartet invited some of South Africa‘s most original and powerful voices to reflect musically on their own experiences and journeys before and after 1994. The programme includes works by Lise Morrison, Monthati Masebe, Thandi Ntuli, Dizu Plaatjies together with Matthijs van Dijk. These three commissioned compositions will be framed by Joseph Haydn’s “Lark Quartet” and the String Quartet No. 2 in F major, Op. 41 by Robert Schumann.
