About this Event

Old World meets New Roots when Sicilian American singer, Michela Musolino, visits Libreria Pino on April 25th. Traditions from Sicily and the Mediterranean come crashing into the rich, musical sounds of contemporary roots music as Michela, with voice and frame drum, intertwines story-telling with musical exploration. Joining Michela will be joined by multi-instrumentalist, Lorenzo Piccone.

Michela Musolino sings songs of daily life, songs of feast days, songs of protest, and songs of love...songs that make your heart sing and your feet dance! It’s a musical genre you recognize with the soul.

Internationally recognized Sicilian-American singer, Michel Musolino, the grand-daughter of Sicilians immigrated to America, explores her cultural roots through the study and reinterpretation of the folk songs of Sicily. Having grown up listening to music from two worlds Musolino now weaves the ancient and the modern into melodies and allures with a voice that seems to float between the ages: at times powerful and expressive, at times intimate and charming. Musolino has sung in medieval castles and ancient Sicilian temples, NYC landmarks, honkey tonks, and national folk festivals connecting audiences in a brotherhood of shared emotions and experiences, conveyed in the songs of her repertoire.

Italian-born country music artist Lorenzo Piccone is renowned for his deep melodies and sentimental lyrics. Piccone, who enjoys Americana and Alt Country, skillfully combines traditional country components with a modern twist to produce a sound that is all his own.

Piccone's music sends listeners on a journey across dusty highways, nostalgic memories, and heartfelt emotions. He draws influence from the vast landscapes and rich musical tradition of both Italy and America. He tells tales of love, grief, and the bittersweet facts of life with his expressive storytelling and unpolished voice, capturing the essence of country music.

Lorenzo Piccone asks listeners to embark on a journey with him through his music, one in which the boundaries between Italy and America are blurred and the universal language of music takes center stage.

Inframezzo: from the Italian definition, “elemento di interruzione del tempo”. It’s also the space between two acts of a play or musical piece connecting them. Fra, short for Francesca, also means “in between” in Italian. And Fra, divided in between two lands, is the piece connecting Inframezzo, a music collaboration with Rex John Shelverton (Tamaryn, Vue, Bellavista), Rachel Hoiem and Emma Feickert.

When Rex met Francesca, they formed a deep connection and he started to produce her songs. The direction was to leave them in their original folk state, with goth vibes, the unique sound of his guitar and the deep cello of Emma Feickert. Shortly after, Rachel joined the band recording her electric pianet in the song Easy Rider. The dark sound creates a mysterious atmosphere that reminds of Mazzy Star.

The first EP “Whispers to the Universe” was originally released in 2021 under Francesca’s artist name Insannie Frannie and rebranded with the new band name on June 28th 2022. Since 2021, the band recorded a full album. Rachel’s involvement gradually increased, leading to the song “In Between” where she backs up Fra with her vocals and pianet.
