Few figures in British music carry the weight, history and innovation of Shy FX. For over three decades, he has shaped the language of jungle and drum & bass—not just as a producer, but as a foundational architect of UK sound system culture. “Original Nuttah” didn’t simply break through; it redrew the boundaries of what underground music could mean in the mainstream. Through Ebony Recordings and Digital Soundboy, Shy FX has moved instinctively across reggae, rave, hip-hop and soul, always pushing bass music forward while staying anchored to its roots.
This summer, Shy FX steps into City Recital Hall for a rare, one-off performance—joined by a figure who has carved his own influential path: Mala. A founding member of DMZ and the driving force behind Deep Medi Musik, Mala helped shape dubstep’s earliest language and opened doors for a movement that stretched across the world. From seminal tracks like “Changes” and “Anti War Dub” to expansive works such as Mala in Cuba and Mirrors, his catalogue is a testament to depth, craft and spiritual connection.
Together, Shy FX and Mala represent two branches of the same lineage—artists who have spent decades evolving without compromise, defining eras while continuing to shape what comes next. This isn’t a look back. It’s a meeting of visionaries whose work still reverberates through contemporary club culture.
Eora’s own dub princesses, Alilia & Anusha, set the tone for the night with a warm, rolling B2B.
For one night only in Sydney, Shy FX leads a singular gathering of forces still shaping the culture—Mala joining him for a performance where the low-end speaks, the history resonates, and the future takes form in real time.

We pay our respects to the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, and acknowledge their custodianship of these lands and waters; their culture and language; and their elders – past, present and emerging.
