In 1992, Shuhada (Sinéad O’Connor) took her mother’s portrait of the Pope to Saturday Night Live - and ripped it to pieces - shattering her pop-star career in one swift sweep, whilst igniting her legacy as a fearless social activist. At age 19, MT (Marie Thérèse) set off across Ireland on her green steed, cycling through the rocky landscapes of abandoned faith, ancestral hunger, and intergenerational rage - half expecting to bump into Sinéad amongst her many long-lost cousins.
In this 60-minute musical deep dive, MT sings her way home — unearthing lost languages, reminiscing upon her travels, revisiting Sinéad’s genre-defying journey - from Irish trad, to pop, to punk, to rap, to reggae … to imagine - what might Shuhada Sadaqat have sung next?
- Presented as part of Adelaide Fringe Festival 2026.
