About this Event
Following the online webinar on June 11th, join GMRI and partner organizations in the field to learn more about blue mussel beds, local ecosystems and research and to make ecosystem observations to submit to the Mussel Bed Mapping Community Science Project. Observations will be made in the intertidal zone during an extreme low tide. Be prepared to move along mudflats to collect data.
There will be multiple locations to join in person throughout Southern Maine and New Hampshire, but you are welcome and encouraged to go to an area local to you and participate on your own. When you register, please select where you will be making observations.
Host sites for fieldwork include:
- Hamilton Audubon Sanctuary, West Bath, ME hosted by Quahog Bay Conservancy
- Bowdoin College Schiller Coastal Studies Center, Orr's Island, ME
- Wolfes Neck Center for Agriculture and the Environment, Freeport, ME
- Chebeague Island, ME (we will not reimburse ferry cost)
- East End Beach, Portland, ME hosted by Friends of Casco Bay
- Higgins Beach, Scarborough, ME
- Biddeford Pool Boat Launch, Biddeford, ME
- Odiorne State Park/ Seacoast Science Center, Rye, NH
