“Show Me Your Pride!” provides a brief look into the rich history of LGBTQ+ life in the Midwest, with a special focus on Missouri and St. Louis. Hannah Fuller — a PhD candidate in Public and American History at Loyola University Chicago — is a historian who studies the relationship between queer, feminist movements and rural, Midwestern spaces in the late-twentieth century. This talk will explore why the Midwest is often overlooked in LGBTQ+ discourse, providing an overview of the history of LGBTQ+ communities and activism in the region, with emphasis on important figures and watershed moments in St. Louis, MO. Through her work, Fuller illustrates that the Midwest has always been a queer place, often in ways more meaningful ways than previously acknowledged.
