Join us for this new one-day story-writing workshop guided and led by local author Zoe Fairbairns. While encouraging you to write, Zoe will invite you to consider such questions as
- What is a short story? Must it have a beginning, middle and end – and must they necessarily be in that order?
- How can you grab your reader’s attention – and keep it?
- What has to happen in a story? If nothing happens, is it still a story?
- How can you end your story in such a way that the reader is satisfied – but still wants more?
- Which published stories have you enjoyed? How can you give similar enjoyment to your reader?
WHAT TO BRING:
Your preferred writing equipment: laptop, smartphone, or even pen and paper. And a vivid imagination.
ABOUT ZOE:
Zoe Fairbairns’ short stories have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4, and are published in her collection How Do You Pronounce Nulliparous? She has contributed to anthologies including Tales I Tell My Mother: A Collection of Feminist Short Stories and The Seven Deadly Sins, and magazines including The Mechanics’ Institute Review. She has lived most of her adult life in the Crystal Palace area, and has been writer-in-residence in Bromley schools.
