On the 28th and 29th November 2025, Jamaica was hit with a category 5 Hurricane Melissa, the strongest Atlantic storm in history, leaving many parts of the island completely demolished and thousands of people without homes, food, water and other basic survival resources.
The impact of the climate catastophy for those who contribute the least to climate emissions like the Caribbean is devastating. And as a person of the Jamaican diaspora, it is completely heartbreaking to see ones ancestral homeland, family, friends and wider community suffer because of this.
This is truly a time that calls for fortifying the mind, body and spirit as we explore the many ways we can support one another through times of crisis, uncertainty, grief and change.
Herbs For Resilience will be led by Bekah Williams from Earthchild Remedies, a British-Jamaican Herbalist, Wellbeing and Menstrual Health Practitioner, Urban Foraging, Sacred Circle and Visual Arts Facilitator, Cultural Producer and Creative. Bekah's roots run deep into Jamaican Maroon and Celtic wisdoms, traditions and healing practices.
Bekah has trained with her elder Ivelyn Harris, 7th generation Maroon Herbalist of the Windward Maroons in Cornwall Baracks, Portland Jamaica. As well as working as a herbalist in London UK, Bekah will be weaving together and sharing her knowledge on Jamaican Maroon and Western herbal histories, knowledge and practices on how we can build our resilience through working with medicinal plants and turning to ancestral healing wisdom.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
- The ways in which ancestral Jamaican Maroon herbal teachings and Western herbal allies can support us in times of crisis, uncertainty, grief and change.
- The physical, energetic and spiritual properties of the plants.
- Herbal preparations, techniques and practices for you to begin working personally with the medicines.
WHAT WILL MY TICKET BE FUNDING?
