“Yes They Can” is a film by Magali Judith (@magalijdt), highlighting the challenges NYC can collectors face. Many canners are undocumented immigrants, non-English speakers, or individuals experiencing homelessness, often lacking access to the benefits and protections of regular employment. While living costs continue to rise, the redemption rate for a can has remained unchanged since the early 1980s. Some canners are urging New York lawmakers to increase redemption rates, securing fair compensation as they work to keep NYC streets clean and the planet green.
