About this Event
A meetup for builders solving real problems in government technology. Come build with us.
What this is
Shipyard is a room full of people who build things that support government missions — BD and capture work, operations, delivery, program office tooling, whatever. We get together around a focused topic and spend a few hours learning, sharing, and building together.
It's not a conference. No panels, no keynotes, no vendor demos. Just people with laptops, a shared topic, and a few hours to see what we can figure out.
Whatever comes out of it gets cleaned up and shared publicly so other teams can fork it and adapt it for their own work.
The first session
Tuesday, May 19, 2026 · 4:30pm – 7:30pm SevaSpaces Co-working, 1604 Spring Hill Rd, 2nd Floor, Vienna, VA 22182
This is the first one. We're still figuring out the format, the rhythm, the right topics to explore. Come help us figure it out.
Bring a laptop. Bring your questions. Bring your curiosity. Bring whatever you're working on or thinking about. Light snacks and two drink tickets on us. Cash bar after that.
Who should come
Anyone who builds things — or wants to build things — that make government work better. BD leads, capture managers, delivery engineers, program managers, contracting officers, solo consultants, students, people between jobs, people between ideas. If you're curious and you build, you belong here.
For federal employees
This is a public event open to anyone in the builder community. If you're a federal employee and you'd like to attend, you're welcome here on your own time, in your personal capacity.
A few notes so everyone's clear on the setup:
- This event is open to the general public. Registration is through Eventbrite and the event is promoted on public platforms.
- Attendance is free. Refreshments are modest — light snacks and two drink tickets per person. Total value is kept within standard gift rules. Anything beyond that is cash bar.
- There are no targeted invitations, no VIP tracks, and no swag or prizes tied to government attendance.
- Discussions and builds are framed around general, open-source-style problems. Please don't work on active agency business, specific procurements, or anything tied to your official duties.
- Please attend on your own time and don't use government-issued devices, credentials, or licensed software during the session.
If your agency ethics office has specific questions, we're happy to answer them — reach out before the event.
What happens after
We'll publish what we put together on GitHub. Fork it, adapt it, run it in your own environment. The idea is that the patterns and ideas that come out of these nights should be something your team can actually use.
