Silver Clay Workshop
No experience neccesary - Suitable for total beginners

The process:

During this workshop you will make fine silver charms using the shapes and textures found in the environment, transferring them on to the silver clay, to make at least one pair of earrings and/or charms that are perfect for pendants to hang on a necklace or bracelet.

To start with, we will look at textures and practice techniques to explore design options, before progressing onto using the silver clay, for the final design.

Silver Clay is a user friendly product, made using precious metals recovered from recycled tech such as computers and mobile phones. It is mixed with an organic binder and a little water to produce an adaptable product, which enables the creation of fascinating jewellery pieces.

All materials and tools will be provided*. At the end of the day, you will take home a pair of fine silver earrings or chain charms, depending or the size of your designs

*7g silver clay pack. Earring findings will be provided. Chains can be purchased if you would prefer to wear your creations as a necklace.

Attendees must be 16 years of age and above.

Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult (there is no extra fee). If you / or someone you know are wishing to attend a workshop and are under 16 years, please send me an email and I will be happy to help.

Sensible, closed shoes required and no loose clothing: things can get a little messy in a jewellery making environment and whilst apron’s are provided, it’s worth bearing in mind not to wear your very best clothes!

As this course is a full day, please bring your own packed lunch. Alternatively, if you’d like to treat yourself… Muddy Beach Cafe, Sunshine Studio Cafe and Baileys Country Store are all close by!

Handy to know...

If you have found your own shells or textures that you would like to use, you are extremely welcome to bring them along to the workshop. Small textures found on shells, the veining found on leaves or even some fine lace, are perfect examples. Try to ensure your own found resources are no larger than a 10 pence piece.

Hosted by Clare Parker

Clare has been a creative educator for over 25 years and has used silver clay in her own jewellery making for the last seven years.

Supported by her knowledge and skills across a breadth of materials and techniques, she is able to inspire confidence in even the biggest self-doubters. Clare can't remember a time when she didn't create or draw and is a resident artist at The Sea Glass Studio. She loves to see the sense of achievement people feel when learning new skills and creating positive outcomes.

Hot Benching:

Once the course has been completed you will be able to hire 1 of 4 available silversmithing benches – fully equipped with tools included – for a day rate of £20. This will enable you to continue to develop your new skills independently. Please note, you will need to bring your own silver. I am happy to guide you on what you need to order and where from.
