This special concert at the Musical Instruments Museum in Brussels celebrates the 160th anniversary of friendship between Japan and Belgium.
Bringing together classical Nagauta, the music used for Kabuki theatre and contemporary works for shinobue and nohkan, the programme explores the dialogue between heritage and innovation.
Featuring leading women performers of Japanese traditional music, the project highlights both artistic excellence and evolving cultural perspectives.
The workshop opens at 11:00, offering a chance to enjoy traditional Japanese music performed by students, learn about its history and instruments, and take part in guided interactive activities inspired by shamisen and tsuzumi, including rhythmic participation and vocalised learning techniques, with selected demonstrations on the instruments.
