Shine Bright Saginaw is thrilled to announce the commencement of an extraordinary artistic endeavor set to illuminate the heart of Old Town Saginaw. On May 2, world-renowned Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel, celebrated for his vibrant and captivating Pop Surrealist style, will begin work on what will become the second-largest mural in the United States.
Stretching across a staggering 65,000 square feet on the iconic old grain silos, Okuda's masterpiece will infuse the Saginaw skyline with an explosion of color and imagination. This monumental project marks a significant milestone for the city, transforming industrial relics into beacons of artistic expression and community pride.
The Shine Bright Saginaw mural is set to be a celebration of joy, hope, and the resilience of the human spirit. Okuda and his team will be joined by five talented local artists, enriching the mural with diverse perspectives and voices from the Saginaw community.
"This mural is more than just paint on walls; it's a testament to the power of art to transform spaces and uplift spirits," said Mark Flegenheimer, co-organizer of Shine Bright Saginaw. "We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Okuda San Miguel and our local artists to bring this vision to life in Old Town Saginaw."
Okuda San Miguel's distinctive style — characterized by geometric patterns, bold colors and surreal imagery — has captivated audiences around the world. His work transcends traditional boundaries, bridging cultures and inspiring dialogue.
