A talk about Mafias, Deviant Masonry and Corruption in Italy + Wine Reception
About this Event

Join us for a wine reception at the beautiful University Women’s club in London and ask all you ever wanted to ask about mafias deviant masonry and corruption in Italy!

The book “Mafia, Deviant Masons and Corruption: Shifty Brotherhoods in Italy” (co-authored Anna Sergi & Alberto Vannucci) is published by Routledge in May 2023. To launch the book, the Centre for Italian Politics at King’s College London and the Centre for Criminology at Essex University invite you to an evening of discussion, with canapés and wine, on the themes of the book. The conversation will be on the difficulties to see, study and understand the entanglements between mafia groups and deviant masonic lodges, together with institutional actors, in Italy at various times and latitudes. The very concept of ‘deviant’ masonic lodge will be discussed and critiqued, as well as the challenges to identify how power and crime really intertwine in the Italian context.

The Event

The authors Anna Sergi and Alberto Vannucci will be introduced by Leila Simona Talani and will be in conversation with John Dickie. The Embassy of Italy will be a guest of the evening. The authors will welcome the Italian community, Freemasons lodges, and the public to engage with the event. The Q&A will be moderated by il Manifesto di Londra and FIRM UK.

A wine reception and canapé will follow.

John Dickie – Professor of Italian Studies, University College of London, author (among other things) of ‘The Craft: How the Freemasons made the Modern World’

Leila Simona Talani - Professor of International Political Economy and Director of the Centre for Italian Politics at King’s College London
