Exploring natural indigo vat dyeing using shibori (tie dye) resist techniques of folding, clamping, stitching and gathering to create repeat patterns. You will learn about the transformational process of indigo dyeing and come away with a hand-dyed cotton tea towel and t-shirt. You may also bring natural fibre textiles or clothing with you to dip in the vat.
Designer info
Jess Chan is a designer specialising in Printed Textiles and Natural dyes, with colour playing an important role within the design process. Her designs are inspired by botanical nature and geometry, intertwining texture through mark-making. Her research into Natural dyes has led to an Artist Residency in Oaxaca, Mexico.
