Structured literacy and all the practices that support strong classroom instruction are at the heart of this workshop. The word “para” comes from Greek and means “alongside.” This workshop is designed to help you work alongside teachers by building your understanding of the why behind structured literacy—why it matters, why it works, and why your role is essential.
By strengthening your knowledge of the principles and reasoning behind structured literacy, you’ll be better equipped to support effective reading instruction and contribute meaningfully to student success.
Objectives:
- Identify key components of structured literacy (e.g., phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, encoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension).
- Recognize common instructional routines used in structured literacy and understand why these routines are designed the way they are.
- Apply evidence-based support strategies that align with teacher-led instruction and maintain instructional fidelity.
- Use consistent language, prompts, and correction procedures that reinforce structured literacy practices.
