Many Years Turning Chickens reinventa a história da pintura, misturando a exuberância do Rococó com as regras fluidas da Abstração. Inspirando-se em artistas como Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, Hilma af Klint, Lee Krasner e Joan Mitchell, Sheila cria um diálogo eclético através do tempo. Agora radicada no Algarve, ela inspira-se em vestígios da cultura mourisca — desde os azulejos até às chaminés ornamentadas — para questionar a rejeição da decoração pelo Modernismo. As suas pinturas abraçam a beleza, o humor e o “mau gosto” que, como disse Dave Hickey, é o “verdadeiro gosto”.

“Many Years Turning Chickens” reimagines the history of painting, blending the voluminousness of Rococo with the fluid rules of Abstraction. Drawing inspiration from artists like Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, Hilma af Klint, Lee Krasner, and Joan Mitchell, Sheila creates an eclectic dialogue across time. Now based in the Algarve, she draws on traces of Moorish culture — from azulejo tiles to ornate chimneys — to question Modernism’s rejection of decoration. Her paintings embrace beauty, humour, and “bad taste,”, as Dave Hickey said, “real taste.”
