Wrap the Woods Painting Party on September 3, 2025!Our next (and last) opportunity to paint a slogan on a sheet for the Wrap the Woods event takes place on Wednesday, September 3 at the Tempie Avery Montford Community Center, 34 Pearson Dr. Please drop in any time between 5 and 7 p.m. Bring paint, brushes, and sheets if you have them! (We have extras if you don’t.) We also need small containers to rinse brushes and newspaper or cardboard to protect the tables and sidewalk from paint.

Meet at 9:30 a.m., wrap event will be from 10-11 a.m. (meeting locations TBA).
Please bring a sheet (used, from a thrift shop if you’d like to paint a message on it). We will email you with more details, and sheet / sign-painting opportunities.
The Wrap the Woods event was inspired by Peggy Gardner who, in 1980, had the idea for an educational, art installation of wrapping the entire 11-acre area of Downtown Asheville by holding up a chain of cloth to help give people a visual sense of the area to be demolished to make way for a mall complex. Two hundred people volunteered to help save downtown.
The urban forest is the area in need of our preservation. Join us is saying no to a plan to raze 54 wooded acres to build a 5,000-seat stadium/concert venue, market-rate housing, and retail.
