Shawan Rice is a New Orleans based vocalist, songwriter, and storyteller whose work centers on original compositions and reinterpretations of influential repertoire. She performs regularly across the city with a rotating lineup of highly regarded musicians, including Donald Ramsey and Chris Senac on bass, Terrence Houston and Rodney Weber on drums, among a wide network of collaborators within the New Orleans music community.
Touring for over a decade throughout the United States and internationally, Rice has appeared on major stages including the Congo Square stage at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Switzerland’s Jazz Ascona Festival. Her performance history spans concert venues, listening rooms, and festivals nationwide, and includes shared bills with artists such as Grace Potter and George Porter Jr.
Her work moves between full band performances, intimate ensemble settings, and solo appearances, with a focus on passionate and emotionally charged live performance.
