Shamanism tells us that there is another, deeper reality behind this day-to-day, physical one. When we choose to deliberately and temporarily immerse ourselves in shamanic reality - to enter one of the shamanic realms for healing or insight - we go on a shamanic journey. The Shamanic Journey is a way of finding answers, information, healing, wisdom and knowledge as well as guidance or help.
Shamanic journeying involves entering an altered state of consciousness characterised by high levels of theta brainwaves. The shamanic trance state can be very light or very deep.
There are many ways of venturing into this trance state, but the most common is the use of the shamanic drum - the 'shaman's horse' and the rattle.
In this journeying circle, we will experience the shamanic trance inducing power of the drum and we will journey to one of the shamanic realms for healing and insight. There are 3 shamanic realms, which are all very distinct. Guidance will be given on how to journey to a specific realm and how to know which realm you are in so you can journey safely and ethically.
The circle is open to all levels of experience, however it is very much geared towards beginners and people that are relatively new to journeying, or who have limited experience and would like to build their confidence in a safe, supportive and gentle environment.
We will be focussing on the basics of shamanism and animism and of journeying, and keeping things simple. We will not be practicing or discussing any advanced shamanic techniques, or comparing different kinds of teachings. Please bear this in mind before booking and consider whether this is the right circle for you.
You may wish to bring:
- A yoga mat to sit or lie on
- A blanket to keep yourself warm
- A bandana, eye mask or scarf to cover your eyes while journeying
- A drum or rattle if you have one
- A notebook and pen
- Water
There are a maximum of 5 places in this circle, so registering in advance is essential.
