The Kiphart Center for Global Health and Social Development welcomes Theresa S. Betancourt, PhD. the inaugural Salem Professor in Global Practice at the Boston College School of Social Work and Director of the Research Program on Children and Adversity (RPCA) in conversation with Mary Bunn, PhD, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker and Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Department of Psychiatry.
Betancourt will discuss with Bunn her newly released book (January 2025) Shadows into Light: A Generation of Former Child Soldiers Comes of Age which describes a study that has now been underway for more than 23 years—following the lives of male and female former child soldiers in Sierra Leone from the end of its civil conflict in 2002 to the present.
Books will be available for purchase at the event. The book discussion ends at 7 p.m., directly followed by a light reception and book signing.
