Tech violence and abuse often involve the use of smartphones, social media, messaging apps, and other digital platforms.About this Event
Tech violence and abuse often involve the use of smartphones, social media, messaging apps, and other digital platforms. Because youth engage with tech every single day, it holds considerable influence impacting everything from their body image, relationships, mental health, and understanding of sexuality. Cyberflashing, hacking and controlling accounts, harassing messages, coercive sexting, sharing images without consent are ways teens experience abuse within their relationships (also known as digital dating abuse). As technology advances in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI) and fake images (deepfakes), risky online behaviors will increase. This session will bring awareness around tech abuse and provide tips for supporting youth who are dealing with technology-facilitated sexual violence.
