About this Event

The Brain Injury Association of York Region is pleased to present the next 2024 Educational Talk, Sex, Sexuality & ABI.

Learning Objectives:


  • Sex and Sexuality: Understanding the Importance
  • Normalizing sex changes and concerns
  • Encouraging discussions with healthcare practitioners
  • ABI and Sexuality: Exploring common sequelae of ABI on sexual function, self-esteem, body image, communication, etc.
  • Tools and Strategies for Coping

Please note this Educational Talk runs from 1:00pm until 2:00pm and that there will be an interactive Q&A session to engage in the last 20 min of the webinar.

About Kelli Young and Brigitt Degeus:

Kelli Young

Kelli Young is an occupational therapist, a registered psychotherapist, a registered marriage and family therapist, and a certified sex therapist. She recently retired from her position at Toronto General Hospital, University Health Network, where she worked for over 3 decades. She continues to see clients for couple and sex therapy in her private practice in Toronto. Kelli has been happily married to her husband of 30 years, and together they have raised two wonderful daughters.

Brigitt Degeus

Brigitt Degeus is a Social Worker with over thirty years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families that have sustained significant and traumatic brain injuries, other neurological impacts such as Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke, AVM, ACM, and Spinal Cord Injuries. Brigitt has worked in a variety of different settings, such as community, providing counseling and support in client homes, clinical and hospital settings. Brigitt Degeus is a member in good standing with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, the Ontario Association of Social Workers, and with the International Social Workers working with Individuals with Acquired Brain Injuries (INSWABI). Brigitt Degeus has extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, (individual and in group facilitation) Mindfulness Training, Emotion Focused Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Systemic Family Therapy and Gottman Level One Couples Counselling. In addition to strong clinical skills, Brigitt Degeus has an excellent working knowledge of various community resources, she is able to facilitate and activate community linkages and effective discharge planning. Brigitt prides herself in being a strong client advocate and helping clients, their families andother community members navigate resources in the community.
