Sewl Sistas: Reversible Origami Bag Sewing Workshop
Join us (Nadeen & Karen) in person for a fun and creative sewing session! Learn how to make your very own reversible origami bag from scratch.Inspired by sculptural origami shapes, this versatile bag is both practical and beautifully designed — and you’ll leave with a finished piece handmade by you.
Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to grow in confidence using a sewing machine.
Hosted within the SANYAN Collective studio, this workshop is designed to feel welcoming, creative and unintimidating — perfect for learning at your own pace in a small supportive group.
During the workshop you will:
* Learn how to construct a reversible origami bag
* Develop sewing and finishing techniques
* Gain confidence using your sewing machine
* Receive step-by-step guidance throughout
* Leave with a completed handmade bag
What to bring
* 2 metres/yards of fabric
* 1 for the outer fabric
* 1 for the lining
* Your sewing machine
* Matching thread if possible
Recommended fabrics
Cotton or denim work best.
Please avoid stretchy fabrics.
Lining fabrics and a selection of African print fabrics will also be available to purchase on the day if needed.

About the Hosts
Karen Williams is a self-taught fashion designer and founder of SANYAN and the SANYAN Collective, a creative studio supporting independent fashion, lifestyle and artisan brands in Leeds. Alongside her creative work, she has extensive experience delivering professional training in coaching skills, communication and customer service development, bringing a calm, practical and supportive approach to teaching.
Nadeen Strachan is a professionally trained Leeds-based fashion designer and seamstress specialising in corsetry and bespoke garment making, with a strong eye for structure, fit and finish.
Together, through Sewl Sistas, they deliver sewing workshops designed to help people build practical skills, creativity and confidence in a welcoming and inspiring studio environment.
Designed as a space for creativity, connection and wellbeing, the workshops encourage people to slow down, rest from the pressures of everyday life and enjoy the therapeutic rhythm of making with their hands.
Sew, laugh, connect and create — with music, light refreshments and plenty of encouragement along the way.
