About this Event
The Tuesday Tote: Stylish & Practical Sewing Project

Taught by Mary McCannon

Sew your own Tuesday Tote, a simple yet stylish bag designed to be quick to sew and perfect for beginners—or a satisfying fast project for more experienced sewists. This tote features a modern two-color block design, giving it a polished and versatile look.

The finished bag measures approximately 10” wide, 12” high, and 4” deep, making it ideal for everyday errands, grocery trips, travel, or daily essentials.

Students may choose which version of the tote they would like to create.

What to Expect

  • Guided instruction through constructing the Tuesday Tote from start to finish.
  • Learn techniques for working with woven interfacing and structured fabrics.
  • Gain experience sewing structured seams and assembling a functional bag.
  • Leave class with a nearly completed or fully completed tote, depending on pace and preparation.

Important Class Requirements

To participate in this class, students must complete the following before class:

  1. Purchase the pattern from KnottedThreads.com.
  2. Download and print the pattern.
  3. Read through the entire pattern.
  4. Decide which version you want to make.
  5. Cut out all pattern pieces for your chosen version.
  6. Fuse woven interfacing to fabric (do not fuse to vinyl).
  7. Complete Pattern Steps 1 & 2 (Interfacing & Prep).
  8. Cut out all fabric pieces prior to class.

If you have any questions about preparation, materials, or machine setup, please contact the store so we can connect you directly with the instructor.

Fabric & Materials

  • Exterior fabric (cotton canvas recommended for beginners).
  • Optional vinyl for one exterior panel (vinyl is recommended over cork or faux leather for first-time students).
  • Lining fabric (quilting cotton works well).
  • Woven interfacing (SF101 recommended).
  • 1” webbing for straps.

Supplies You Must Bring

  • Sewing machine in good working order (with extra bobbins and machine needles).
  • Pins.
  • Wonder Clips (required if using vinyl).
  • Scissors.

Note: The pattern suggests a seam roller for vinyl. This is optional—the instructor will have one available.

Benefits

  • Build confidence sewing structured bags.
  • Learn practical skills for working with multiple fabric types.
  • Create a polished, functional tote you’ll use regularly.
