About this Event
Improving clothing construction skills - a course for people who have sewing machine skills but want to learn how to make garments or improve their sewing skills.
The emphasis of this course will be on constructing two simple garments of the participant's choice. Ideally, one made from a woven fabric and one from a stretch fabric, starting with the woven fabric.
The sessions would start with an introduction to patterns and fabric (it would be recommended that participants do not buy a new pattern or fabric until after the introductory session).
During the sessions, time would be taken for all of the class participants to make samples of the techniques required to make the garments of the other participants. This way they will learn from the construction of the garments of all the class members.
Emphasis will be placed on how these new skills can be used by the course participants to create new designs and expand their knowledge and skills. The course will also consider the use of repurposed materials and the repair and recycling of clothing.
