New to sewing or looking to build confidence at the machine? This beginner-friendly workshop is the perfect place to start. In Sewing Basics #1, you’ll learn how to safely and confidently use a Brother sewing machine while creating a simple, useful project—a reusable heat pad.Participants will be guided step by step through the fundamentals of machine sewing, including threading the machine, winding a bobbin, adjusting stitch settings, sewing straight seams, and basic troubleshooting. You’ll practice essential techniques while constructing a rice bag that can be used as a microwaveable heat pack or cold pack at home.
No prior sewing experience is required. This class is designed to help you feel comfortable using the sewing machine, understand basic sewing terminology, and leave with a finished project you can be proud of.
All materials and equipment are provided. This workshop is a great first step for anyone interested in exploring sewing, apparel, or textile projects at MadJax.
By the end of this class, you’ll understand how the Brother machines function and feel more confident returning to the Design Lab to sew on your own.
