6 Classes- 6 Weeks- Complete a custom jacket using any sewing pattern of your choosing.

Who you are: Someone who wants to learn the finer points of sewing! You have previous sewing experience and know the basics of working with a sewing machine and pattern, and are looking for instruction in choosing fabrics and notions, working with a lining, making pattern and fit adjustments, and applying buttons/buttonholes, zippers, pockets, lining, collars, cuffs, and more!

Class structure: Hands-on machine sewing class lead by sewist, Louise Sutton. During this intimate course you will meet with them and up to 3 other learners for six, 2 hour classes.

Course dates: Thursday Nov 7th, 14th, 21st, & Dec 5th, 12th, and 19th

Class curriculum: Choosing appropriate fabrics and combo fabrics, choosing correct notions (zippers, buttons, or other closures), fabric preparation including using interfacing, working with lining, considering design decisions, using a pattern, basic pattern adjustments, common alterations to fit, applying buttons/buttonholes and/or zippers, pockets, lining, collar, and cuffs (as needed per your pattern) and other best practices for a professional finish.

Outcomes: Participants will create a customized jacket and gain advanced sewing skills needed to explore more outerwear projects.

What you need: Bring yourself! If you have a sewing machine you'd like to use, please bring it along with the pedal, presser foot, and needle. If you do not have a sewing machine, no worries- We have machines available for use. Participants are encouraged to bring their own machine to class to learn it's settings and functionality, but if you don't have one and aren't ready to invest in one, we'd be happy to make one available to you during class. You will be responsible for sourcing fabric and matching thread and notions, but DO NOT buy materials yet- Our course teacher will cover how to select fabric and notions in the first class. You will need to purchase a jacket pattern of your choosing in your size BEFORE the first class.

If you have taken our Sewing 101 course, you will already have the necessary tool kit to complete this project. If you have not taken a class with us, you will also need the following tools to make your jacket.
