About this Event
To celebrate the original Bayeux Tapestry coming to the British Musuem and highlight the Silk Museum's rare piece of the Leek Replica, artist-historians Ailsa Holland and Becca Smith are creating an embroidered tapestry of Macclesfield's history in the style of the Bayeux, funded by Macclesfield Town Council. Using naturally-dyed wool and medieval stitching techniques, the artwork will be a intricate and fascinating collection of significant moments from the town's history and also a map of the town, spanning a thousand years, which you can add to! This session is to introduce the project and give you ideas for elements you would like to add, plus a brief guide to the stitches required. Following this session you can request a stitching kit and a design of the element you want to stitch, to take home and work on over the midwinter period. Further practical workshops will be open to all from January, in which the stitching techniques will be demonstrated to all abilities. This session is for anyone who is interested in learning more!
