Sew It Yourself: Zipper Pouch Workshop
Create a stylish and functional 6” x 9” zipper pouch perfect for art supplies, cosmetics, travel items, or gifting! This beginner-friendly workshop walks you through the entire process from piecing fabric to installing a zipper, all while helping you build confidence with your sewing machine.
If you are not familiar with your sewing machine, please consider taking our “Truly Beginner Sewing Class” first.
What to Expect
- Learn how to sew in a zipper (it’s easier than you think!)
- Add lining and fusible interfacing for structure and strength
- Practice topstitching for clean, professional results
- Leave with a completed zipper pouch and the skills to make more at home

What to Bring
- ¼ yard (or fat quarter) of exterior fabric (quilter’s cotton or home décor fabric)
- ¼ yard (or fat quarter) of lining fabric
- ½ yard fusible interfacing (such as SF101)
- One 9” all-purpose zipper
- Your sewing machine with zipper presser foot
- Thread to match, pins, scissors, marking pen, and bobbin
Optional kits (fabric, interfacing, and zipper) may be available for purchase in the shop — but all participants must still bring their own sewing machine and tools.
Prep Before Class:
Please pre-wash quilter’s cotton and pre-cut the following pieces:
- (2) exterior pieces – 10” x 7”
- (2) lining pieces – 10” x 7”
- (2) fusible interfacing pieces – 9” x 6” (do not prewash)
Supplies Provided
- Ironing stations and pressing tools
- Basic instructor guidance and troubleshooting
- Optional kits may be available for purchase (fabric, interfacing, zipper)
Participants must still bring their own sewing machine and sewing tools.
