About this Event
Nestled between the lands of the Papacy and the vast Mediterranean sea, Southern Italy stood for millennia largely unchanged as a country of ancient magic and customs. While much of this archaic world has faded with the arrival of modernity some seventy years ago, much remains imprinted on the land, both in memory and practice.
Exploring the sacred and aesthetic in this ancient territory, Seven Pilgrimages is an evening of music and stories from towns, cities, and sanctuaries all across the former kingdoms of Naples and Sicily.Featuring a variety of authentic folk instruments and rare, ancient singing styles, this is an evening of journeys spatial and temporal, the echoes of a world in which the only reprieve from the crises and injustices of peasant life lay in the mystical and the beautiful.
