Seven Nights of 007: Tomorrow Never Dies (M, 1997) Presented in 35mm Film by The Revival House Perth in partnership with RAC
Media mogul Elliot Carver (Jonathan Pryce) controls a vast communications empire and plans to expand into the Chinese market by any means necessary—including starting World War III. When a British warship is sunk in Chinese waters by Carver's stealth boat, tensions between the superpowers escalate toward conflict, exactly as Carver planned. James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) investigates Carver's organization, discovering the tycoon intends to broadcast the war he's manufactured, securing exclusive media rights and ultimate power. Bond reunites with his former lover Wai Lin (Michelle Yeoh), a Chinese agent on the same mission, and together they must stop Carver's plan before his manipulation triggers global catastrophe. Racing against a 48-hour deadline, Bond and Wai Lin battle Carver's forces from Hamburg to the South China Sea.
Director Roger Spottiswoode delivers Pierce Brosnan's second Bond outing as a kinetic action thriller that predicted media manipulation and fake news before they became mainstream concerns. The 1997 film showcases spectacular set pieces: a remote-controlled car chase through a Hamburg parking garage, a motorcycle chase along Saigon rooftops, and Bond piloting a stealth boat. Michelle Yeoh brings martial arts expertise and genuine star power, creating one of the franchise's best partnerships—she's Bond's equal, not his conquest. Jonathan Pryce chews scenery delightfully as the megalomaniacal Carver, while Vincent Schiavelli makes a memorable henchman as the sadistic Dr. Kaufman. David Arnold takes over scoring duties, modernizing the Bond sound. The film's prescient themes about media control and manufactured conflict give it unexpected relevance decades later.
