Birds That Eat Other Birds
with Bob Kellogg & Abby Proctor, Marine Science Center Educators
Did you know there’s an entire universe of birds that eat other birds? They’re called avian avivores—and they’re far more common (and fascinating) than you might think.
Bob Kellogg and Abby Proctor will explore the wide range of species that prey on birds, from dedicated carnivores to opportunistic feeders. The program then narrows its focus to Florida’s raptors—those perfectly adapted hunters we see right here at home.
Abby will introduce our resident raptors and explain what sets each group apart.
Bob will take a deep dive into who’s hunting whom, spotlighting three bird-hunting raptors found in Florida: North American Kestrels, Cooper’s Hawks, and Peregrine Falcons.
🦅 Live bird(s) expected! Bob and Abby often present with a live raptor, and we’re hoping for one this evening.
As time allows, the discussion will broaden to include other bird species known to prey on birds.
