Breaking the Cycle of Dysfunction: Understanding the Lived Experience of Transformation and ResilienceThe holidays often bring family dynamics to the forefront—reminding us how old patterns and unhealed wounds can resurface despite our best intentions. This timely presentation explores the lived experiences of “cycle breakers,” individuals who have successfully transformed their lives despite growing up in dysfunctional family systems.
Drawing from interpretative phenomenological research, Dr. Regina Tate uncovers the inner strengths, external supports, and meaning-making processes that lead to lasting change. Attendees will gain fresh insights and practical tools to help clients—and themselves—navigate family interactions, foster resilience, and create new patterns of connection during the holiday season and beyond.
Dr. Regina Tate, PsyD, LPC-S, LCDC, is an owner of NewPath Therapy & Wellness and Connected Path Recovery, two thriving mental health and recovery organizations in Southeast Texas. She recently earned her Doctor of Psychology, where her dissertation explored how individuals overcome deeply rooted family dysfunction to create healthier lives. With over 20 years of experience in counseling and leadership, Dr. Tate is passionate about empowering both clients and clinicians to embrace growth, authenticity, and resilience. She also serves in leadership roles within the Texas Counseling Association and advocates for advancing the profession through education, mentorship, and innovation in treatment approaches.
