Refugees Stranded on the Poland-Belarus Border
Seven months before Ukraine’s mass exodus to the EU, a different humanitarian crisis was taking place at the edge of Fortress Europe. On one side refugees are met with generosity and 100 km further north, Poland is constructing a border wall through Europe’s oldest natural forest to prevent the "wrong refugees“ from making crossings. Many have frozen to death in the forest, been abused by border guards, or repeatedly pushed back to Belarus. Polish activists supporting people in the emergency state zone, where human rights observers, journalists and humanitarian aid are forbidden, are being massively criminalized. In a documentary filmed in June 2022, refugees and activists maintaining covert networks of solidarity talk about their experiences and the urgent work that needs to be done within the limits and dangers of this violent border.
After the screening, there will be merch for sale- all profits will go to the Polish No Border network
