About this Event

If you enjoyed Community Conversation, join us for a continuation of that community conversation! In partnership with , Achieve Atlanta is hosting an evening learning series for community stakeholders to hear about powerful research and discuss strategies to help our students achieve stronger educational outcomes and upward mobility.

This event is the second part of the learning series. We encourage you to participate in the second part of the series even if you do not attend the first session.

The series is designed to engage stakeholders in a collaborative exploration of the barriers impacting economic and social mobility (ESM) in Atlanta. It prioritizes deep reflection, shared learning, and actionable problem-solving, allowing participants to connect their personal and professional experiences to broader structural challenges and solutions.

By the end of the series, participants will:

  • Develop a shared understanding of the factors influencing upward mobility and the barriers specific to Atlanta.
  • Reflect on personal and professional experiences with mobility challenges.
  • Co-develop actionable, locally tailored strategies that advance upward mobility.
  • Foster cross-sector collaboration, encouraging participants to make individual and organizational commitments.

---

Refreshments will be provided, and parking for the 191 Peachtree parking garage will be validated.

The event will take place in the Yarbrough Room on the 10th floor of the 191 Peachtree building.

is a nonprofit organization on a mission to help Atlanta Public Schools students access, afford, and earn postsecondary credentials. Achieve Atlanta's vision is that Atlanta is a city where race and income no longer predict postsecondary success and upward mobility.

is a national education nonprofit that brings paradigm-shifting research, advocacy, and impact consulting together to increase educational equity and help our partners reach ambitious goals for student success.

The first report in TNTP's series, , has been released. This initial publication shares the TNTP vision, theory of action, and examines how high school experiences shape economic and social mobility in adulthood. Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997, TNTP discovered that:

  • Few young people who experienced poverty in adolescence experienced meaningful economic or social mobility in adulthood.
  • Strong academic outcomes significantly increased the likelihood of mobility.
  • Those who most needed a strong academic foundation were the least likely to get access to it.
  • Strong academic outcomes alone didn’t outweigh the effects of poverty.

To build a better path, they have identified five interconnected factors that we believe will drive economic and social mobility for young people: strong academics, career-connected learning, social capital, personal support, and civic engagement.
