Stages -
I. The day will start with an overview of the ATI, what it contains and how to use it, using slides and then a live demonstration, in a room provided at Treborth Botanic Garden, Bangor, North Wales
II. Attendees will then register themselves on the ATI (if not already done) and explore its structure using their own equipment via WiFi
III. We will then run through the process and guidelines for recording Ancient, Veteran and Notable Trees, and the key items to record – Location, Species, Girth, Form, Access, Features and photographs
IV. After a short walk we will explore the trees in Treborth Botanic Garden - Woodland | Treborth Botanic Garden | Bangor University , recording any Ancient, Veteran and Notable Trees using tapes and clipboards provided, in small groups ensuring everyone has an opportunity for hands-on recording
V. There may also be an opportunity to inspect other recorded trees already on the ATI in the Garden
VI. We will then return to the office and enter the records on the ATI, ready for verification.
The Ancient Tree Inventory can be found at ati.woodlandtrust.org.uk and if you haven’t already done so it might be helpful to have a look before you come, but not essential
In order to tackle the climate crisis, we support saving local heritage tree seeds and propagation for local projects in Wales. This workshop is part of a training program to enable Welsh communities to register tree seed clusters, collect tree seeds from healthy trees and set up their own tree nurseries to provide saplings for local tree planting projects.
This event has been made possible with thanks to Coed Cadw, the Woodland Trust in Wales, with support from Players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
