About this Event
Serene is a concert pianist and computer scientist. Whether performing Rachmaninoff’s Concertos at the Vienna Konzerthaus, composing avant-garde cyberpunk VR music for the Academy Museum, or programming and performing alongside industrial robots at a fusion energy facility, Serene's artistic vision extends far beyond traditional boundaries.
She enjoys collaborations across genres, whether composing opera for Kanye West or performing with Grimes wearing brainwave devices. In a remarkably short time, she has gathered an international following whilst bridging the gap between the traditional and the cutting-edge. As a technologist, Serene began coding at age 9, graduated early from Carnegie Mellon, was hired by Google as a teenager, and became the first engineer at Google Ideas.
In open source, she is known as the creator of the Snowflake protocol, a circumvention tool which helped millions of people bypass repressive censorship. She is the founder of Snowstorm, the evolution of that protocol into a true internet freedom layer.
Serene is a Bösendorfer Artist, a National Arts Club Artist Fellow, and advisory board member of the World Ethical Data Foundation.
