58,500 patients will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year in the USA and 12,250 will die. Dentistry deals with no other disease that extracts a greater price in morbidity and mortality than oral cancer. Practicing clinicians have an ethical, professional and medicolegal responsibility to be knowledgeable about this disease.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Gain knowledge of the epidemiologic and demographic features of patients
- Become familiar with the etiology including HPV and the biologic principles of cancer
- Identify the clinical features of oral cancer and precancerous lesions
- Understand your role in the identification, diagnosis and management of oral cancer
